Short briefings on anything and everything- & how they relate to our food
Then came the advent of society- with control of food sources being the factor that determines who's in power. Humans experience their first taste of ownership, authority, and eventually government. Those who controlled food controlled people.
Many could argue that with domestication and farming comes convenience- in theory we have more power over our lifestyle nd diets. However, agriculture has taken over food production, our environment, and our health by implementing chemicals, practices, and labor that it should not be resorting to.
Since the Green Revolution of the 1960's industrialized agriculture has made monocrp[ing and pesticide use the "new norm" to feed the population. The effects of this struggle are lasting and prolonging even today; however we are finding the strength to reverse this part of our food system. We keep having to feed more and more people, but it cannot be done like this. It's almost like we have succumbed the trade of skill and brain power to machines and schedules. We cannot forget we have the final say of how we live and what we eat- this freedom cannot and should not ever be compromised. But why do we settle? Has it crept up on us- is it all we know these days? Have we just been too busy to pay attention? The battle against industrialized agriculture is a large feat to take on; but a fair challenge when undertaking one of the main bases of our food system. That begs us to ask the question:
Do we control our food production, or does our food production control us?
